With an artist as prolific as Adam Lanceley, it can be difficult to pick out a song to review but ‘A Villa On The Cliffs’ from his new EP Back To The Sunshine, is certainly a stand out track that deserves some limelight.
Adam’s trademark, brightly strummed guitar opens the track before making way for his equally signature vocals; their powerful rock tone providing a fitting contrast to the instrumentation on the track.
Over his past 5 albums, Adam has without a doubt developed an increasingly adept skill for structuring his songs and this is evident in ‘A Villa On The Cliffs’. The guitars and vocals from the verse are juxtaposed with a beautiful organ-esque chorus break that builds gradually with its harmonious chord structure. On top of this, the backing vocals add another subtle layer of texture to an already well-crafted track. However, saying this, Adam doesn’t go over the top with his instrumentation – he likes to experiment, but is careful and considered when putting his tracks together, another trait that Adam has developed in the new EP, Back To The Sunshine.
Thematically, Adam has located his fountain of inspiration and he has done this by looking back to his fondest memories. Childhood has become a big influence for Adam on the latest record and he is even influenced by specific locations from specific times in his mind. As a result, we see a much more introspective songwriter who has truly found a winning recipe for the music he makes.
All proceeds from Adam’s new EP, Back To The Sunshine, are being donated to The Brain and Spine Foundation, a charity that holds great significance for Adam after he was involved in a serious car crash aged 10. It was thought he may not survive, or even talk again, but Adam has demonstrated inspirational levels of strength of character to recover and forge a career in creating music.
