‘Stay Alive’ is the latest release of young artist Jaq Moon, taken from his EP ‘Dark Matters’.
The hip-hop track has added edge given that the video, directed by Marcos Jay Teno, has been used to highlight the uncertainty of healthcare under the new administration, another worry created as a result of Donald Trump’s presidency.

Jaq has taken inspiration from his turbulent childhood, and projected those feelings of angst and anger onto his music; making for an expressive sound to be clearly distinguished from the more generic hip-hop/R&B artists.
The video for ‘Stay Alive’ is slightly disjointed, given that the song is strong in its message, the visuals seem slightly muddy and over-blurred in comparison. Still, it does well to highlight the backlash against Trump’s presidency and the collective worry in America at the moment.

With a decline in political messages in songs, it’s refreshing to see such a young artist take to the tricky path of speaking out, that many tenacious and intelligent musicians paved for him.
