The release of Pink Milk‘s debut album, Purple, got us to thinking about bands hailing from Sweden.
- Pink Milk. Ok, bit of a cheat as we’ve already mentioned them. Huge, ogre bellows of feedback and creepy soundscapes. Perfect for foggy weather adventures.
- Dungen. We’ve loved Dungen since we heard them on 2002’s brilliant compilation, “Who Will Buy These Wonderful Evils?” Garagey, proggy, acey.
- The Flower Kings. There’s prog and there’s Flower Kings prog. One of their tracks last a whole hour. Bravo!
- Diablo Swing Orchestra. It would take a stoney heart not to be drawn to that band name. Berserk avant-metal with trumpet and trombone players in their ranks. Marvellous
- S.P.O.C.K. So bad, they’re good, all the way around to being bad again. Electro-sci-fi pop.
- Bob Hund. The jokeiness wears a little thin but they’re close to being the country’s They Might Be Giants
- The Concretes. Ultra-lush indie pop…though if you didn’t have a lush sound with 8 (yes, eight) members, you’re definitely doing something wrong
- Pain. A bit like Ministry…a bit like Nine Inch Nails…but less so on both counts.
- Hedningarna. Witchcraft-friendly folk which, in no small part to the video that accompany their singles, is pleasingly terrifying. Do not listen to without all the lights on.
- Landberk. Great name! Great band! Rock pop outfit utterly drenched in mellotron. Luvverly.
